Phoenix is a locally owned and operated full-service contractor proudly serving Western Kentucky and the Tri-State area.
With roots dating back to 1987, we’ve grown from a small family business in rural Webster County into a trusted regional name for Heating, Air Conditioning, Plumbing, and Electrical services.
At Phoenix, we believe in doing things the right way, the first time!
We prefer the “old school” approach to craftsmanship, paired with modern technology, honest communication, and hometown pride.
Our team is built on the legacy of Floyd’s Heating and Air, and Mike Owen’s Heating and Cooling honoring the work ethic, skill, and customer-first values passed down from previous generations.
Today, the Phoenix flock continues to rise — offering residential and commercial service, repairs, replacements, and installations across HVAC, electrical, and plumbing trades.
Whether you’re heating your home, powering your business, or fixing a leak, we’re here to deliver “The New Degree of Comfort” — one home, one customer, one community at a time.
Don’t wing it — give it the bird!
Meet the Phoenix Team
Joshua Floyd “Big Bird”
Founder of Phoenix Heating, Air, Plumbing & Electric
Joshua Floyd grew up in the trades — quite literally. From the time he could walk, he was following his father, James “David” Floyd, to job sites across Webster County, Kentucky. David, the founder of Floyd’s Heating and Air, taught Josh the “old school” way of doing business: repair first, do it right the first time, and always take care of your customers.
Those lessons stuck.
Josh spent his early years learning every corner of the industry — from service calls and installations to managing complex commercial projects and navigating corporate accounts. Over time, he developed not just skill, but vision: to carry on the family legacy while modernizing it for the next generation.
After his father’s passing in 2022, Josh earned his Kentucky Master HVAC License, and Kentucky Master Electrician's License and officially took the reins. What started as Floyd’s Heating and Air evolved into something greater — a rebirth fitting of its name: Phoenix Heating and Air.
Under Josh’s leadership, Phoenix has expanded beyond HVAC into full Electrical and Plumbing services, transforming into a complete home comfort and mechanical solutions company serving Western Kentucky and the Tri-State.
His mission is simple:
“To honor where he came from, to build lasting relationships with customers, and to create sustainable, high-quality careers for his growing team.”
For Josh, Phoenix is more than a business — it’s a living tribute to his father, a promise to his team, and a service to his community. He’s driven by a belief that skilled trades can change lives, that every customer deserves honesty, and that every employee deserves a career they can be proud of.
His proudest project — and his personal “Crown Jewel” — is Phoenix’s Madisonville Kentucky Shop, a property that had been abandoned for more than 11 years before he and the Phoenix Team brought it back to life. Once the abandoned truck maintenance and storage facility for U.C. Milk Company and Goldenrod Milk, it now stands as a symbol of renewal, rebirth, and what hard work can achieve — the perfect home for a company named Phoenix.
He often says:
“My dad taught me to fix things — not just equipment, but the way people feel about service. Phoenix is about doing both.”
That philosophy fuels every decision he makes — from maintaining a ‘Repair First’ policy rooted in integrity, to offering career opportunities with real stability for his employees. Josh is passionate about showing that local, family-driven companies can deliver top-tier professionalism while keeping small-town values alive.
He’s also deeply invested in growing the trades — mentoring new technicians, building training programs, and setting a standard for what a modern service company should look like: ethical, skilled, and people-focused.
Under his leadership, Phoenix has become more than a name — it’s a movement built on hard work, honesty, and heart.
In Loving Memory of James “David” Floyd
February 27th 1966 - September 2nd 2022
James “David” Floyd was the son of a WWII U.S. Army veteran who taught him that a good life is built through hard work and integrity. His mother, Joyce Floyd, worked as a custodian at Webster County High School, where she met Emerson Moser of Sebree’s own E&M Heating and Air. Emerson saw potential in David and encouraged Joyce to have him attend HVAC college — convincing her that the trades were the way to go.
Taking that advice to heart, David enrolled at Ivy Tech in Evansville, Indiana, where he earned his Associate Degree in HVAC. After graduating, David and his parents, Joyce and J.C. Floyd, founded Floyd’s Heating and Air in the backwoods of rural Webster County, Kentucky, in 1987.
David quickly became known as “the local AC guy” — always dependable, always fair, and always ready to help his neighbors. Even in their later years, Joyce and J.C. could often be found helping in the office or lending a hand installing ductwork.
David was both a Kentucky Master Electrician and a Kentucky Master HVAC Technician. He ran Floyd’s Heating and Air from 1987 until his passing in 2022. But his greatest accomplishment was the legacy he left behind — the skills, values, and integrity he passed down to his son, Joshua Floyd.
From a young age, Josh learned from his father’s “old school” approach: repair first, take pride in your craft, and always do the job right the first time. Those lessons continue to live on through Phoenix Heating and Air, where that same dedication guides every job and every technician.
Though David never got to see the full fruits of his labor, his impact endures. To this day, there are countless systems still running strong — installed by a father and son whose work helped build the foundation for what Phoenix has become.
Forever remembered. Always respected. The flame that started it all.
